Older adults in Spokane who worry about falling can join “A Matter of Balance: Preventing Falls,” an eight-meeting program at Moran Prairie. The first session is Monday, November 2, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Registration is required by calling 509.777.1571.

The small-group format combines conversation, problem-solving, idea sharing, and gentle exercise. Participants will work on practical activity goals, consider changes that may make their surroundings safer, and explore movement that supports flexibility, strength, and balance. The sessions also address how a different perspective can make falls feel more manageable. Everyone who takes part receives a workbook.

Additional meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, November 4; Monday, November 9; Monday, November 16; Wednesday, November 18; and Monday, November 23. SHIBA and Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington are community partners. SHIBA offers free, unbiased, confidential Medicare counseling through trained volunteers, while ALTCEW provides Medicare education along with support related to fall prevention, dementia, and memory loss.
