Gonzaga University has placed a new reporting portal at the bottom of every page on its website. University community members can submit concerns involving harassment, safety or student conduct without first determining which campus office should receive them. Each submission will be routed to the office or authority responsible for handling it.

The hub fulfills a promise from President Katia Passerini after the Black Student Union identified more racist incidents within the student body during the previous school year. Grant Barnes, the union’s communications lead, said students sometimes did not report bias, prejudice or harassment because the process was confusing or they did not know where to begin.

Depending on the concern, a submission may reach campus security, student support services or the Title IX office. Brice Yates serves as Gonzaga’s Title IX coordinator and leads its harassment and discrimination prevention work. He said making the process accessible supports accountability and helps people bring concerns forward. For Spokane students and families connected to Gonzaga, the change creates a clearer entry point when problems arise. The university also plans to display portal access information at locations across campus.

What to know
  • The portal appears at the bottom of every university webpage.
  • Reports may involve harassment, safety or student conduct.
  • Submissions are routed to the appropriate campus office or authority.
  • Portal access information will also be displayed around campus.
