Tchaikovsky and Elgar at Spokane’s Fox Theater

The Spokane Symphony’s Saturday program at The Fox pairs two major works: Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor, Op.23 and Edward Elgar’s Symphony No. 1 in A-flat major, Op.55. Philip Edward Fisher takes the piano solo, and James Lowe conducts. The concerto is known for a forceful beginning and expansive melodies; after intermission, the Elgar symphony moves from reflective passages toward a bright, triumphant conclusion.

For the January 16, 2027 concert, The Fox opens at 6 p.m. A talk about the program begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m. A Sunday performance is also listed, with entry beginning at 1:30 p.m., a talk at 2 p.m. and music at 3 p.m. The venue is at 1001 W Sprague Ave in Spokane.

Fisher has performed as both a soloist and ensemble musician internationally. His appearances include Merkin Hall, Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center and several United Kingdom venues. He began studying music at age 9, first performed publicly one year later and made his concerto debut at 12.
