A Matter of Balance: Preventing Falls starts Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. in the Moran Prairie meeting room. Registration is required by phone at 509.777.1571. The program is intended for older adults who worry about falling.

Participants meet in small groups for eight sessions focused on discussion, problem-solving, idea generation, and gentle exercise. The sessions address realistic activity goals, changes that can make home environments safer, and movement designed to build flexibility, strength, and balance. Each person receives a workbook, and the program also explores how a different perspective can make falls feel more manageable.

Later meetings are scheduled for Monday, November 2; Wednesday, November 4; Monday, November 9; Monday, November 16; Wednesday, November 18; and Monday, November 23, 2026. Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington sponsors SHIBA, which offers free, unbiased, confidential Medicare counseling through trained volunteers. For library events in person, accessibility requests should reach Spokane County Library District at comments@scld.org or 509.893.8200 at least five business days beforehand.
