Fall-prevention series begins at Moran Prairie library
The eight-session program helps older adults build balance, strength and safer daily habits.

Spokane County Library District will begin “A Matter of Balance: Preventing Falls” at 1:30 p.m. on November 16, 2026, in the Moran Prairie meeting room. The program is intended for older adults worried about falling, with registration available by calling 509.777.1571.
Participants will meet in small groups for eight sessions that combine conversation, idea-sharing, practical problem-solving and gentle movement. Activities address setting achievable activity goals, improving flexibility, strength and balance, and making changes in the surrounding environment that may lower fall risks. A workbook is provided to each participant.
The series also explores how changing one’s perspective can make falls feel more manageable. SHIBA and Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington are community partners; SHIBA offers free, confidential Medicare counseling through trained volunteers, while ALTCEW provides Medicare education and support on fall prevention, dementia and memory loss. Spokane County Library District says its in-person events welcome people of all abilities. Accommodation requests should be made at least five business days ahead by emailing comments@scld.org or calling 509.893.8200.
