Otis Orchards will host a Dementia Friends information session on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. The gathering will take place in the Meeting Room and is designed for people who want to help make their community more welcoming to those living with dementia.

Participants will explore how dementia may affect daily life, consider signs that could concern someone caring for a loved one, and discuss practical ways neighbors can offer support. The information may help families and community members respond when they are wondering whether someone they know is experiencing dementia-related changes.

SHIBA and Aging & Long Term Care of Eastern Washington are community partners. SHIBA offers free, confidential and unbiased counseling through trained volunteers who assist consumers with Medicare. ALTCEW sponsors SHIBA locally, provides Medicare education, and also offers education and support related to dementia, memory loss and fall prevention. Spokane County Library District says its in-person events welcome people of all abilities; accommodation requests should be made at least five business days ahead of time by emailing comments@scld.org or calling 509.893.8200.
